4. Luther Campbell, Miami Hurricanes

Luther Campbell is probably the most infamous inclusion on this list, and for good reason. While the majority of the celebrities featured throughout the 30 listed are just people enjoying sports, Campbell allegedly took it to steps that (as far as we know) no other celebrities have taken it to, things to the tune of violating NCAA rules in a major way that could’ve hurt the program ultimately.

The member of the hip-hop group 2 Live Crew was exceedingly passionate about the Miami Hurricanes in the 1980s-90s, but perhaps too much so. Campbell was allegedly part of paying players during that era of Hurricanes football as he would offer players “bonuses” for their performance on the field.

Even worse, Campbell tried to use his influence over the program and his fame to strong-arm the team in a way. Most infamously, Campbell tried to ensure that Ryan Collins would be the starting quarterback in the 1993 season by threatening to disclose information regarding the money he paid to players. So, if we’re being honest, his fandom of The U isn’t exactly the most wholesome thing that we’ve ever seen. But this isn’t a ranking of wholesomeness.

If nothing else, you have to be in awe of just how far Campbell, who remains a fan of the Hurricanes to this day (though less involved), was willing to take his fandom. Even if it’s not the most savory way for a celebrity to express that, it lands him in the top five of this list.
