Sheldon Richardson, DT

Keeping with the theme of improving the front four, the defensive tackle position could be a spot that Ballard and company target in free agency. Indianapolis will have a decision to make with Al Woods, who was important for the team in the middle. Outside of Woods, the defensive tackle group features a lot of Margus Hunt, who played well but can be replaced and Denico Autry, who was just okay last year. Needless to say, upgrades are available for this position

The best of the bunch is former Vikings defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson. After a trade two years ago that sent him to the Seahawks, Richardson joined Minnesota on a one-year deal that expired this past season. Richardson always felt like a rental for a defense that was looking to push itself over the top. That could be good news for the Colts.

Richardson is an ideal fit in the Colts four-man front. He would be a wrecking ball as a three-technique while also keeping stud linebacker Darius Leonard clear and allow him to flow all over the field. His presence would also help the pass rushers, as Richardson has shown promise as a pass rusher when he was in New York. Age-wise Richardson has yet to hit 30 and has been a consistent force for his entire career.

Knowing Ballard, this could be the area he identifies for the draft. Look at the resources he threw at the offensive line only a year ago. Defensive tackle and edge rushers are loaded in 2019 and it would be the type of forward-thinking move for him to scrap big-name signings for draft picks. Richardson is good enough that it should not matter but the defensive tackle position should be a high priority for this team.
