Adam Humphries, WR

An area that seemed under-addressed so far in the Ballard regime has been the wide receiver position. He brought in free agents Ryan Grant and Dontrelle Iman but those players are stop-gap caliber at best. They need to complement T.Y. Hilton to give Andrew Luck the most amount of help he can have. Rookie Deon Cain had an impressive pre-season but missed the regular season with an injury. His return should help. Grant and Inman may be retained, but this offense could use some help on the open market.

Adam Humphries is a name to keep an eye on. The former Buccaneer is set to hit free agency this offseason. With Tampa having Mike Evans, Desean Jackson and Chris Godwin on the roster, the likelihood of him walking seems high.

Humphries is the ideal slot target for this offense. He would give Luck a type of weapon he’s never had in a quick-twitch player that can make tough catches over the middle to keep the chains moving. Like Fowler, Humphries is only 25 years old. He’s also coming off of his best season yet with over 800 yards receiving on 76 catches with five touchdowns. Humphries was part of a prolific passing offense in Tampa Bay and is the type of player that can elevate Indianapolis’ unit as well.

There are other names that got consideration here. Dallas’ Cole Beasley was the first name but Humphries is a younger and cheaper option with better production. Golden Tate would also fit the type of player described but is on the wrong side of 30 and coming off a down year. A trade for Antonio Brown will also be discussed, given their free cap space. However, it is unclear if Pittsburgh will even give that idea a thought.
