4. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are set to part with Ryan Tannehill, and there are indications they will not spend much overall in free agency as they look to tear things down next season and head toward a full rebuild with a new head coach. After existing in irrelevant mediocrity for a long time, “Tank for Tua” appears to be on the radar in South Beach.

That lack of upcoming offseason spending would seem to put Miami out of the running for Foles. But cutting (or trading) Tannehill along with some other cuts or trades (Xavier Howard, DeVante Parker, Robert Quinn, Andre Branch) would open up more cap space. Foles is sure to be looking for a multi-year deal, but a clear chance to start next season might be enough to get his attention.

Foles may not want to be part of the launch of a rebuild anywhere, and no one would blame him for that. But if he can negotiate a contract with some ways out after next season, or simply get a deal with a salary/cap hit that is easily tradeable, a starting gig with the Dolphins could become a spring board to another team a year from now. As part of Miami’s long-term plan, Foles may surface as a suitable bridge quarterback for next season.
