Nick Foles rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
3. Denver Broncos
To the surprise of no one, after a career year with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017, Case Keenum became, well, Case Keenum again in 2018 upon signing with the Broncos. Since Peyton Manning’s last, clearly diminished season, sub-optimal quarterback play has been the norm in Denver.
General manager John Elway will get another chance to draft a quarterback in April, with reports suggesting he’s enamored with Missouri’s Drew Lock as a likely target with the 10th overall pick. But there’s nothing to prevent the addition of another veteran signal caller, and Keenum could be cut with almost no impact financially ($11 million in cap savings, $10 million in dead money) to clearly open up a spot.
Outside of some solid play over two separate stints with the Eagles, Foles has pretty much been a backup-level quarterback himself during his career. His career profile is very similar to Keenum’s, which may turn Broncos fans off automatically. But if Elway wants to add a veteran quarterback to at least immediately compete for the starting job, with Keenum and/or an incoming rookie, Foles is no worse than another available option like Joe Flacco.
