2. DE Brandon Graham (Philadelphia Eagles)
While Nick Foles was the Most Valuable Player in Super Bowl LII, perhaps the most pivotal play in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots was the team’s only sack of the game. Late in the fourth quarter, defensive end Brandon Graham got to Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady, knocked the ball loose and the Birds recovered. It led to the final points of the game as the Eagles hung on for an eight-point win.
Getting to opposing quarterbacks was not a strong suit for the Miami Dolphins in 2018. Led by newcomer Robert Quinn (6.5) and reliable Cameron Wake (6), the team came up with only 31 sacks as a club. The ‘Fins finished 21st in the league and allowed 31 scores through the air. The lack of consistent pressure on enemy signal-callers hurt this club in a big way.
Adding the versatile Graham would certainly be a coup for new head coach Brian Flores. And he can certainly relate to those pass-rushing numbers. The Patriots finished with only 30 sacks during the regular season but added 10 more QB traps in the postseason sweep of the Chargers, Chiefs and Rams. Wake can become an unrestricted free agent next month and it will be interesting to see if the Dolphins bring him back. If not, Graham would be a nice addition and could help the front seven in various ways. And speaking of fixing the Miami defense…
