Ranking the top 25 NFL free agents this offseason
By Ian Wharton
10. Jadeveon Clowney, DE, Houston Texans
While Jadeveon Clowney isn’t a future Hall of Famer, he’s still a terrific presence as an edge defender. The 26-year-old is entering his prime with 29 career sacks and has proven to be an elite run defender. His arrow is still pointing upwards.
Clowney’s more well-rounded than others higher on this list but doesn’t quite have the explosive speed as a pass rusher. Houston cannot afford to lose him. Expect the Texans to use the franchise tag.
Projected deal: One year, $17.3 million (franchise tag) or five years, $90 million
Best fits: Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, New York Jets, Detroit Lions
