National Signing Day 2019: The most important recruit for every Top 25 team
10. Texas A&M: Kenyon Green, OT
The No. 1 recruit in the state of Texas is headed to College Station. Green (Humble, TX) will provide some support to an offensive line that surrendered 35 sacks in 2018 (102nd). With such an impressive class, being considered the “most important” is no small feat – Green will likely see playing time from the first day he steps foot on campus.
9. Michigan: Daxton Hill, SAF
62-39 jokes aside, the Michigan defense, which ranked first in the nation, was carved up by Ohio State’s DeWayne Haskins, who threw for 400 yards and six touchdowns. Hill (Tulsa, OK) is the top-ranked safety in the country and provides a defensive range that rivals former-Wolverine Jabrill Peppers. If a single player can break the seven-game losing streak to their biggest rival, he would be hailed a hero in Ann Arbor.
8. Florida: Tyron Hopper, OLB
The Gators had a great 2018 and revitalized a program the country thought for sure was dead, thanks to Dan Mullen; it’s hard to pinpoint what the program did wrong in 2018. The run defense was the team’s biggest flaw, allowing 162.5 yards per game (65th). The addition of four-star Hopper (Roswell, GA) should help slow runners down. Hopper also adds to the already great pass rush, where Florida averaged 2.85 sacks per game (T-20th).
7. Notre Dame: Zeke Correll, OC
Against Clemson, quarterback Ian Book looked absolutely helpless, only completing 50 percent of his passes for an average of 4.7 yards per attempt and was sacked six times. The run game was even worse, averaging a paltry 2.5 yards per carry; all of this was against a defense missing one of their best defensive lineman. Correll (Cincinnati, OH) comes in as a four-star center and should solidify the interior of the line. If the Irish want another shot at the Playoff, they have to do two things: protect Book and run the ball. Correll should help both of those.
6. LSU: Derek Stingley, CB
There is no question Stingley (Baton Rouge, LA) will be the next in a long, long line of outstanding defensive backs to play in Baton Rouge. With Greedy Williams headed for the draft, Stingley’s number will likely be called early. “DBU,” as it’s called, continues with signing Stingley, who is the nation’s third overall recruit. He is an electric playmaker who might find himself scoring touchdowns for the Tiger defense.
