Round 6 – Pick 184

Tariq Cole, T, Rutgers

Buffalo did not shy away from taking raw players a year ago. While this draft was more proven commodities, the likliehood of the team grabbing at least one prospect that needs some work is high. Tariq Cole of Rutgers could be that player. He will not be an early starter but he possesses ideal tackle traits at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds. Cole moves very well for his size but needs to refine a few elements of his pass and run blocking before being trusted on the outside alone in the NFL. Buffalo will likely go shopping for some tackle help in free agency. Adding a young developmental piece is a smart back-up plan.

Round 7 – Pick 224

Damarkus Lodge, WR, Ole Miss

Towards the end of the draft, positions of depth of the class begin to show. There is no better example of that then the wide receiver group. This is the deepest class we’ve seen in a long time and there are likely players to be had late into the draft. My favorite of that bunch is Ole Miss’ Demarkus Lodge. Lodge is coming off a dominant week at the Shrine Game where he proved he was the best receiver there. Unfortuntaly he was part of an Ole Miss offense that featured him as the third option behind A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf. There is a very strong chance Lodge has a better pro career than college. Lodge is a pro-ready player who needs to be more consistent. He may blow up the combine and rise well above this slot. If he is available he’d be a great addition for the Bills and another weapon for young Josh Allen.

Round 7 – Pick 230

Maxx Crosby, EDGE, Eastern Michigan

With the final pick, the Bills can jump back to the defensive side of the ball and take a highly possesses ideal length and hand technique for edge players. He lacks some of the mobility in the hips and explosiveness though to thrive as a starter. His best role may be a situational rusher for a team like Buffalo that likes to move their fronts around. Crosby was uber-productive in college totaling 18.5 sacks and 35.5 tackles for loss over his final two seasons. His refined hand use can get him on the field in certain packages. For Buffalo he can supplement Jerry Hughes and the rest of the underwhelming edge group and provide a spark.
