4. Ronald Darby, CB Philadelphia Eagles

When you just had three All Pro players in the secondary, you don’t necessarily need to make that an area of focus. In the same instance, bulking up an area of strength is also never a bad idea.

If the Chargers don’t bring back Phillips, they should look to add another lock down corner to partner with King and Casey Hayward. Adding Darby would give them a true number two to play opposite of Hayward, which allows King to play his true position of free safety more.

Signing Darby would add more versatility too. King could drop into the cornerback position when needed, while having Hayward and Darby play more man-to-man on the outside. The Chargers downfall against the Patriots was the lack of man-to-man they played.

Not to mention, playing man and trusting your corners would allow the Chargers to ramp up the pressure with their talented pass rushers. Of course, Darby does come with a hefty price.

According to Spotrac, he has a market value north of $13 million per year. Darby does come with some health risk, but he is productive when he is on the field. He has played 17 games in the past two years, but he has intercepted four passes during that stretch.

Darby is also only 25-years old. What does that mean? As players age and contracts expire, the team would know they have an experienced corner to rely on for the near future if they sign Darby.
