Round 1 – Pick 11

Devin White, LB, LSU

This is one of those picks that everyone mocks, so it definitely won’t happen. That being said, it is being mocked everywhere because it makes a ton of sense. Devin White has been placed next to the Cincinnati Bengals so many times I’m surprised to see anything else at this point.

White would be a great fit for Cincinnati. The team is reportedly planning on letting Vontez Burfict go. The team’s other top linebacker, Preston Brown is set to be a free agent. Even if Brown returns, there needs to be an influx of talent at the position. The former LSU Tiger White would be that perfect piece.

In today’s NFL, players like White will be even more valuable. A true sideline to sideline athlete, he shined at LSU by being fast and always around the football. Where he makes his money is finding slivers in the run game and attacking the gaps. His ability to close on ball carriers moving laterally is special.

This defense struggled down the middle in part because their linebackers could not get the job done. There is talent on that side of the ball up front and in the secondary. Adding White into the mix could make this Bengals defense even scarier.

Other options included a trade-back scenario or offensive lineman. The trade back scenario would let the Bengals acquire more draft capital to attack positions of need. Offensive lineman like Cody Ford would also make a ton of sense here. Bobby Hart and Jake Fisher are both free agents and they need someone else to keep Andy Dalton upright.
