2019 NFL mock draft: Kyler Murray heads to Jaguars
By Brad Weiss
Thanks to a trade that they made with the New Orleans Saints during the 2018 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers will have two selections in the first round in 2019. Their first selection, coming in at No. 12 overall, is due to the fact that they had one of the more disappointing seasons of any team in the NFC this past season.
Green Bay got Aaron Rodgers back healthy this season, and the feeling was that the team would return to the top of the NFC North with him under center. However, while his statistics looked good on paper, Rodgers did not look like the same quarterback from week to week, and the Packers found themselves on the outside looking in when it came to the playoffs.
During the season, the team decided to fire head coach Mike McCarthy, who helped lead the team to their last Super Bowl title. In 209, Matt LaFleur will take over as the new head coach in Green Bay, and the hope is that he and Rodgers’ relationship will be a lot better than the one shared between Rodgers and McCarthy.
With Rodgers under center, you have to figure that the Packers are going to be solid in 2019, but they need to bolster their defense with their two first round picks in April. Their first selection could end up being Ed Oliver, a dominant defensive tackle from the University of Houston, who many believe it’s a top-five talent heading into the draft.
