5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The last team that should seriously consider bringing in Keenum is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs do have a starter in place in 2015 first-overall pick Jameis Winston, but they are in the market for a backup with Ryan Fitzpatrick expected to leave in free agency.

This may not be an ideal scenario for Keenum, who is clearly looking to find a home as a starter in this league, but if he is forced to settle for a backup job Tampa wouldn’t be a bad option. Winston is clearly on shaky ground in Tampa, splitting time with Fitzpatrick for a good portion of 2018, and he hasn’t really taken the leap to the elite level that the Bucs were hoping for.

Keenum would also get the opportunity to work with a true quarterback whisperer in the form of new head coach Bruce Arians. Arians developed a tremendous relationship with an aging Carson Palmer in Arizona, helping a guy who many scouts considered to be done get the Cardinals to the brink of the Super Bowl in 2015.

The combination of Arians’ presence and Winston’s potential to play himself out of the starting role should make Tampa Bay an attractive destination for Keenum. The Bucs also have to evaluate whether or not Winston is their long term answer before paying him franchise quarterback money, and if they decide to move on Keenum would be a good guy to hold the fort until they find the next solution at the game’s most important position.
