Round 4 – Joe Giles-Harris

Giles-Harris isn’t athletic enough to make Steelers fans forget about Ryan Shazier’s injury, but he’s instinctive enough to make a lot of plays for this defense. Every time you turn on his college tape at Duke you see him pop up all over the field. Pittsburgh could really benefit from an active linebacker like Giles-Harris.

In fairness, drafting him wouldn’t be enough to prevent the Steelers from adding a linebacker in free agency. Giles-Harris isn’t a guy who should be counted on to play as a starter early in his rookie campaign. It is, however, possible that he can grow into that sort of player.

Most current projections have him going in the fourth or fifth round. We’re a little concerned he won’t last quite that long. We wouldn’t argue with the Steelers reaching a little bit for him in round 3. That’s how productive we think he can be in the long haul.

In the fourth round, taking a college player with quality athleticism and such terrific production is a no-brainer. Giles-Harris is a linebacker that should really stand out on film to Mike Tomlin. Don’t be at all surprised to see Pittsburgh start to zero in on the former Duke star early in the pre-draft process.
