Round 5 – No selection

The Steelers dealt this pick to the Raiders in the Ryan Switzer trade.

Round 6 – D’Cota Dixon

The Steelers should look to find a guy capable of helping on special teams with their second sixth round pick. Dixon might not have what it takes to stick as a safety at the next level, but he plays with high enough effort to grow into a special teams ace.

Specifically, he’s got the athletic ability required to fit in at the next level. Drafting a player like that in round six would be good value for Pittsburgh.

Round 6 – Damian Prince

Prince is a big guard with a low center of gravity who really helped Maryland run the football in 2018. He’s not the sort of player who can replace Foster immediately, but Pittsburgh would do well to take a chance on him late in the draft as a developmental prospect.

The Steelers might be smart to pick a draft higher than the sixth round, but that’s just not the way we see things breaking in this mock. Prince could at least give Pittsburgh some depth at guard next season.

Round 7 – Nick Fitzgerald

We’re not entirely convinced Fitzgerald has the passing ability to make it as a quarterback in the NFL, but he’s got a lot of intriguing ball skills. He absolutely carried Mississippi State’s offense every time he was on the field.

Moreover, he just seems like a player that Mike Tomlin would love to have at his disposal. In the seventh round, that’s enough reason to make a selection. Fitzgerald can be a nice signal caller for the Steelers to stash on their practice squad.
