2019 NBA Mock Draft: The dust clears from the NBA trade deadline
As you can see in the clip above, Doumbouya returned with an exclamation mark to the lineup on Saturday, picking up where he left off as a versatile spark plug for Limoges. Not only did Doumbouya looked uninhibited by the thumb injury that stole six weeks from his age-18 season, but his explosiveness with the ball in his hands also arrived with a fury.
Doumbouya began his night off the bench with a thundering transition dunk — the kind that clears the paint and brings the crowd to its feet. Getting out in space is how Doumbouya impacts the game best at this point because of his lack of development as a ball-handler but fortunately, Limoges has the guards to set Doumbouya up attacking and finishing. We saw a nice drop pass to the elbow get set up off a drive as well as an easy layup in which he kept his dribble alive to get past the weak-side rim protector and finish on the opposite side of the rim.
As the most entertaining players seemingly always do, however, Doumbouya saved the best for last. With just less than three minutes remaining in the game, Doumbouya caught the ball open near the arc, took a single step back and spotted up for 3. Swish. In rhythm, a quick release, fluid mechanics — beautiful. If Doumbouya can pull that whole package — driving, playmaking, finishing, shooting — off in the NBA, he will be a matchup nightmare.
Atlanta is in a unique position to be competitive and grow as a team now without any urgency to immediately get better. Some of their young players popped sooner than expected but they could develop Doumbouya on the side and get the most out of him.
