2. East Carolina goes to Omaha

After posting a 44-18 record in the regular season last year, the East Carolina Pirates made it to the NCAA Tournament Regionals and finished the season as the 23rd ranked team in the country when all the dust had settled on the year. The good news for ECU moving forward is that they have a chance to be even better and more dangerous in the 2019 college baseball season, and they’ll show it by making a trip to Omaha.

Make no mistake, there are question marks about the East Carolina pitching staff that, although experienced at spots, has proven to be inconsistent over the past two seasons. But led by Bryant Packard, their All-American star in the outfield, and a host of other dangerous bats in the lineup, the Pirates can hang with anyone. As they look to build off last year, they make a leap that sends them far in the tournament.

1. LSU runs SEC gauntlet, wins College World Series

Multiple times throughout this look ahead, we’ve discussed that the SEC is going to be a beast of a conference in the 2019 college baseball season. The big concern when it comes to that and teams from the SEC potentially winning the National Championship is that they are just going to beat themselves up throughout the season and paint a tough road to a title. Having said that, I don’t believe that’ll be the problem for the LSU Tigers.

The Tigers are no doubt one of the favorites to win the title in 2019. Having said that, we’ve seen SEC favorites in years past ultimately fall short of the mark when postseason college baseball rolls around. Given the fact that LSU returned Zach Watson, Antoine Duplantis and Zack Hess for their senior seasons while bringing in a loaded group of freshman, all the pieces are in place for this team to win it all — and they will.
