High Salary PG

Players costing over $6,250

Kemba Walker (at ORL – $9,200): Needs 43.6 fantasy points. LAST GAME – 54.25 fantasy points against Indiana. You can always take Russell Westbrook with confidence as the man is a walking triple-double. But that game may turn ugly if the Pelicans play like they’ve been playing. Orlando/Charlotte should be a competitive affair and Kemba is going to log big minutes and scoring opportunities. He’s been red hot and I trust him to continue into the All-Star break. Diagnosis: Very reliable with a high ceiling.

Trae Young (vs NY – $8,100): Needs 38.3 fantasy points. LAST GAME – 54.5 fantasy points against LA Lakers. Trae continues to play with some rhythm and even though he didn’t score well against the Lakers, he still put up numbers. And now he gets the Knicks coming off a back-to-back. I’m not opposed to Dennis Smith Jr in this game either but I like Young a bit more based on the back-to-back factor. The much higher salary does concern me so if you want to save, Dennis Smith is more reliable while Young has the higher ceiling. Diagnosis: Reliable with a high ceiling.

High Value PG

Players costing $6,250 or under

DJ Augustin (vs CHA – $4,400): Needs 20.8 fantasy points. LAST GAME – 16.25 fantasy points against New Orleans. Aside from a good game against the Hawks, Augustin has been pretty cold lately. But it’s a rough night at value point guard and Augustin typically gets the minutes and opportunities. And blowouts have limited his production lately. This game projects to be close. Diagnosis: Reliable with a good ceiling.

Tim Frazier (vs OKC – $3,800): Needs 18 fantasy points. LAST GAME – 24.5 fantasy points against Orlando. I don’t know if Payton is going to play. But if he does, Frazier isn’t quite as reliable because the minutes may not be there. But if Payton is out, Frazier will get plenty of minutes. He had 34.25 fantasy points against the Thunder on Dec. 12 if you’re looking for some confidence. I also like Schroder if he ends up playing. Diagnosis: Reliable with a high ceiling if Payton is out.
