Right Tackle

The Texans have brought Seantrel Henderson back into the fold to serve as their right tackle. However, his grasp on the starting job is far from certain. Houston knows they need to overhaul their offensive line and bumping Henderson to the bench is in the cards.

This year’s free agent crop is light at the tackle position, but the Texans could see Ja’Waun James as a potential solution to their problems. When healthy, James was an above average right tackle for the Miami Dolphins.

His services will be coveted on the free agent market so the Texans will have to be willing to spend to upgrade this spot. It’s possible they add a left tackle and let Julie’n Davenport and Henderson compete for the right tackle job.

Last year’s third round pick, Martinas Rankins is also likely to get a look at right tackle. He’s a versatile player who also has the potential to move inside to guard or center. At the very least, he gives Houston another option.

This year’s draft could be another way the Texans address this weakness. It’s possible that someone like Andre Dillard or Yodny Cajuste are available in the second round.
