Cornerback

On paper the Houston Texans have three capable starters at the cornerback position. Veteran Johnathan Joseph is still playing sound football while Kevin Johnson has shown signs of his promise. They also have Aaron Colvin who is an above average slot corner.

The one key contributor from last year’s team hitting free agency is Kareem Jackson. He just wrapped up his ninth season with the Texans and could very well move on.

Houston needs to consider the age of Joseph and injury history of Johnson when looking at this position. It’s possible they attack free agency and target some of the bigger names available such as Ronald Darby and Jason McCourty.

However, it might make more sense for them to stick with what they know and find a way to bring Jackson back into the mix.

This year’s draft offers some potential fits. Washington’s Byron Murphy could be around when Houston picks near the end of the first round. Someone like Notre Dame’s Julian Love is someone they can target a little later.

While this position sits as one of the top five needs on my list, it doesn’t necessarily mean the Texas feel the same way. They have a lot invested already in the position with the money going to Joseph and Colvin.
