No Disqualification Match

Baron Corbin vs. Braun Strowman

Okay. Baron Corbin vs. Braun Strowman is on the main card and the Cruiserweight Championship Match isn’t. What a waste of time this was. The fact that this came right after the Lynch-Flair-Rousey segment only made things worse as the live crowd wasn’t into this at all. Corbin’s music even hit while Flair and Rousey were still out there. Maybe everyone just wanted to get this out of the way quickly. The problem with that? They still got more than 10 minutes to work.

I think everyone knew that with the no disqualification stipulation that we’d see more than just Strowman and Corbin out there, and that did happen. What actually was surprising was the amount of offense Corbin got in before Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley hit the scene. Yes, Strowman was still the stronger of the two but Corbin did get in some solid licks and looked much stronger than he has recently.

The trio of Corbin, McIntyre and Lashley put a massive beating on The Monster Among Men and the only thing that saved the entire segment was the triple powerbomb off the steps through two tables, bringing back memories of The Shield for a minute. That allowed Corbin to pick up the win. Not a good look for Strowman here.

What’s next: It was a little surprising to see Strowman get zero help when McIntyre and Lashley got involved. I was thinking that maybe Kurt Angle or Finn Balor would come out but he was left to take the beating alone. I don’t see Strowman coming out and complaining about it because his character isn’t the type that goes looking for help but I do see some sort of six-man tag happening at Fastlane. That keeps people busy and could also serve as a preview of who we could see in the multi-person ladder match at WrestleMania (should that happen) or it could just set up a number of one-on-one matches in New York. As long as we don’t have to see Corbin vs. Strowman again, especially on a pay-per-view, I’m in favor of anything else that puts a stop to this feud that’s gone on way too long.
