With the No. 30 overall selection in the first round in 2019, the Green Bay Packers will be back on the clock, thanks to a trade they made with the New Orleans Saints during the 2018 NFL Draft. While the team should look to bolster the defensive line early in round one, they should look to get better in the secondary late, and Deionte Thompson from Alabama is the best safety available in this draft class.

During the 2018 trade deadline, the Packers traded away safety HaHa Clinton-Dix, and Thompson is talented enough to start right away at the NFL level, filling his spot. If the Packers are going to do anything in Matt LaFleur’s first year as a head coach, they have to get better on defense, as they have one of the more elite quarterbacks in the NFL in Aaron Rodgers.

The NFC North is going to be loaded next season, as the Chicago Bears won the division this past season, and the Minnesota Vikings made it to the NFC championship game the year before. Green Bay has just as much talent as both of those teams, and if they can bring in two elite players for their defense this April, they could be the favorite going into September.

The key to this team moving forward is going to be Rodgers, and how he gets along with his new head coach. It is no secret that he and Mike McCarthy did not see eye to eye towards McCarthy‘s end in Green Bay, and the relationship between Rodgers and his new head coach is crucial moving forward.
