2019 NFL mock draft: Cardinals select Quinnen Williams
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions have a lot of work to do in terms of their roster this off-season, as they look to get out of the cellar of the NFC North. While they do have a solid quarterback in Matthew Stafford, the rest of this team is going to have to be evaluated, and it will start with the eighth overall pick in 2019.
When it comes to the Lions, they were terrible against the pass last season, especially at getting pressure. Had it not been for that historically bad Oakland Raiders, the Lions would have finished last in the NFL in sacks, so look for them to try to bolster that spot in a draft year that is loaded with those players.
At No. 8, the Lions should still be able to get a solid edge rusher, and a player like Rashan Gary from Michigan should be available. Gary played his college ball in the state of Michigan as a member of the Wolverines program, and would certainly have a solid fanbase playing for the Lions.
Stafford has still yet to prove that he can win big games in the NFL, though he does seem to put up solid statistics every year. This is the Lions team that has a lot of work to do if they’re going to get to the top of the NFC North, which should be an extremely competitive division next season, so adding a talented edge rusher may be the way to go at No. 8.
