Dallas Cowboys: 5 offseason needs in 2019
3. Tight end
The days of Jason Witten terrorizing opposing secondaries are long gone in Dallas. His departure to the broadcast booth left the Cowboys with a massive hole at tight end. Replacing him isn’t going to be easy, but the organization needs to work harder to find a dynamic starter.
No Dallas tight end had more than Blake Jarwin’s 27 catches for 307 yards last season. Both Jarwin and Dalton Schultz have the talent to improve, but the Cowboys shouldn’t wait around and just hope for one of their current tight ends to develop into a quality starter.
Adding a tight end capable of threatening secondaries down the seam would also be a huge help to Prescott and the team’s passing game. Bringing Amari Cooper into the fold mid-season really opened things up, but Dallas didn’t have the right personnel mix to take advantage of all the space he created.
This is one need the Cowboys should look to fill through the draft. The options available via free agency are less than inspiring. On the contrary, finding an intriguing pass catcher on day two of this year’s draft could be a great marriage of value and need for Dallas.
