4. Safety help

One of the biggest Achilles heels of the Chiefs last season was the safety position. It was truly awful without the services of All-Pro safety Eric Berry for the majority of the year.

Eric Murray and Daniel Sorensen don’t do anything extremely well, and they’re average to below-average at everything else. Jordan Lucas was a serviceable player throughout the season when Sutton actually played him, and Armani Watts was starting to play really well before the groin injury that ended his season.

The Chiefs can’t continue sending out marginal players to play a position that’s becoming more and more vital to a defenses success every year and get away with it. The safety position should be the Chiefs primary spot to upgrade this offseason whether it be through the draft or free agency.

Speaking of safety free agents, a certain safety that the Chiefs were linked to during the trade deadline is a free agent this summer. No not Earl Thomas, but Landon Collins. It seems the New York Giants may not franchise tag him and he’s ready to hit the market. Obviously there’s familiarity there on the defensive staff as Spagnuolo coached Collins while they were both in New York.

It may not take a massive contract to secure Collins like it would Thomas which could make it a possibility that the Chiefs bring him in.
