2019 NFL Draft: Oakland Raiders 7-round mock
By Conor Dorney
Secondary help will be a huge priority for the Raiders this offseason, both at safety and cornerback, so it’s highly likely that one or more of their picks in the first couple rounds will be devoted to the back half of the defense.
With not as much top-tier talent at cornerback as we’ve seen in recent years, Oakland could go for a more developmental prospect in the middle rounds like Texas’ Kris Boyd.
Boyd (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) is yet another Senior Bowl prospect that the Raiders staff is undoubtedly familiar with after coaching back in January in Mobile. He’s an extremely physical player who posted 50+ tackles in each of the past two seasons for the Longhorns.
There are some questions about Boyd’s long speed (much of which will be answered at the Combine) and if he can be a true lockdown corner at the NFL level but he offers plenty of physicality and help in run support to help a depleted Oakland secondary that finished dead last in pass defense, per Football Outsiders’ DVOA rankings.
