3. Defensive Tackle

In recent years the defensive line has been a major factor in the Eagles success. They have had the luxury of having both depth and talent. However, things are starting to turn with several players heading towards free agency.

The defensive tackle position is slated to lose Haloti Ngata and there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding Timmy Jernigan. Philadelphia will have standout Fletcher Cox returning, but the depth here is a concern.

Jernigan battled both injuries and inconsistency this past year. He’s due to make around $11 million for this year which is a number the Eagles can’t afford. In fact, it makes Jernigan more likely to be released. Philadelphia could use that money to address other areas.

There is some big-time talent in this years draft at the defensive tackle position. The Eagles have an extra second round pick that could be used to move up in the first round. They could potentially put themselves in position to add someone like Houston’s Ed Oliver.

In free agency, the Eagles might want to target a bigger body capable of helping stuff the run. Some solid bargain candidates include Kyle Love and Christian Covington. However, any free agent pickups at this position will spell the end for Jernigan.
