1. Safety

At the trade deadline last year the Redskins worked out a deal with the Green Bay Packers for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. This move was made with the hope he could potentially be a long-term fit at the safety position.

However, Clinton-Dix didn’t have a strong finish and now seems likely to hit free agency. This creates a whole at the position with limited options on the roster to fill the needs.

DeShazor Everett has a solid hold on one of the starting jobs with youngsters Troy Akpe and Montae Nicholson as upside options. However, the uncertainty at safety is one of the bigger question marks on what’s becoming a solid defense.

The Redskins have invested heavily to upgrade the defensive line using back to back first round picks on Josh Allen and Da’Ron Payne. It’s time they turn their attention to the secondary.

They could go back to the Alabama well with Deionte Thompson or look at Mississippi State’s Johnathan Abram. Free agency offers the likes of Kenny Vaccaro, Clayton Geathers and Tre Boston. Again, the Redskins financial situation is less-than ideal to make a big splash via free agency.

This is a need, but it’s possible the Redskins give their younger unknown players a chance to seize the job.
