Collins and the New York Giants look to be heading towards a messy divorce — unless the team decides to franchise tag the safety. Anticipating the former second-round pick in 2015 hits the open market, Denver would be wise target Collins as one of their top targets.

The Broncos have thrived with hard hitting safeties of Collins’ skill set in the past from the likes of John Lynch, Brian Dawkins, and T.J. Ward. Pairing such a skill set with Denver’s free safety, Justin Simmons, presents the team with one of the best safety tandems in the NFL.

Collins coverage has steadily improved over the years. The four-year safety has only allowed seven touchdowns when targeted the last three seasons after giving up five his rookie year, according to Pro Football Focus.

Still, Collins is known as one of the better tackling safeties in the league only having missed 36 tackles the last three seasons while tallying up 120 run-stops in the same time frame.

Denver currently possesses a little over 21 million in cap space to go along with the inevitable cap casualties to come with the likes of Case Keenum for example. John Elway and company can find enough wiggle room to compete with the market for Collins’ services if he were to reach it.

Adding Collins to a defense featuring Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Chris Harris Jr., and Simmons will get Denver back on track in returning to the postseason. Elway built an elite defense to win Super Bowl 50 while surviving Peyton Manning on his last leg. The President of Football Operations may attempt to do the same with the former Super Bowl MVP in Flacco the Broncos just acquired.
