  • 2019 Recruiting Class Ranking: 3rd

Let’s recap the 2018 season in Austin. The Texas Longhorns were back in the preseason, weren’t back after a loss in the season-opener, were definitely back after a Red River victory, may or may not be back down the stretch, and were completely back as they dismantled the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl. Business as usual for the ever-fluctuating Longhorns fandom.

After bringing in the third-ranked recruiting class in the country, though, Texas appears to not just maintain the success that they had last year while posting a 10-4 overall record, but they have the chance to build off of that. Not only do they have Sam Ehlinger returning and the surprise return to school from wide receiver Collin Johnson, but the Longhorns also flipped 5-star athlete/wide receiver, Bru McCoy, to transfer from USC. That gives them weaponry for Tom Herman and his staff to work with.

As it always seems to be the case with any team in the Big 12, there are questions about the Texas defense. This is a team that returns just three starters from last season, which includes losing stars Kris Boyd and Charles Omenihu. Even still, this team has clearly been building towards being back with no fluctuation, and the 2019 rendition of the Longhorns may be the team to officially achieve that.
