2019 NFL mock draft: Quarterbacks go early after trades
By Brad Weiss
The Los Angeles Chargers were one of the better teams in the AFC last season, finishing the regular season with a conference-best 12-4 record. Unfortunately, they would have to settle for a Wild Card spot, as the Kansas City Chiefs had a matching record, and possessed the tie-breaker over the Bolts.
Heading into next season, the Chargers will be right back in the mix in the AFC, as Philip Rivers and company look to finally make it to a Super Bowl. Father Time has yet to catch up to Rivers, who had another solid season for the Chargers in 2018, but the window has to be closing soon on the veteran signal-caller.
For the Chargers, they could use some help in the interior of their defensive line this April, and that is where they should focus their pick at No. 28 overall. Bringing in a player like Dexter Lawrence would not only solidify their defensive line, but give the Chargers arguably the best defensive front in the AFC West.
Los Angeles already has elite edge rushers in Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa, and they found an absolute gem in the 2018 NFL Draft in safety Derwin James. This is a team that is loaded on both sides of the ball, and you have to think they are one of the favorites to win the AFC heading into 2019, but only if they can overcome divisional rival Kansas City for the AFC West title.
