2019 NFL mock draft: Quarterbacks go early after trades
By Brad Weiss
The Kansas City Chiefs went into the AFC Playoffs as the No. 1 seed this past season, and many felt they were the ones who would be holding the Lombardi Triphy when all was said and done. Unfortunately for Chiefs fans, they were done in at home by Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, who went on to win the Super Bowl.
Of course, the 2018 Chiefs season will be remembered for being the one that put quarterback Patrick Mahomes on the map. The first-year starter set the NFL landscape on fire, throwing for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns, while leading the team to a 12-4 record and that No. 1 overall seed.
As they look to the future, it is certainly bright on the offensive side of the ball, though their defense could use some help. The Chiefs secondary was nothing to write home about in 2018, and despite the fact they got Eric Berry back late in the season, they were not able to do much against the better quarterbacks in the NFL.
Prior to the 2018 season, Kansas City traded away Marcus Peters, and never were really able to fill the void left by the Pro Bowl cornerback. With their first round pick in April, they could bring in a player like Deandre Baker, who is one of a few first round cornerback talents in this draft class, and would be an instant starter on this Chiefs defense in year one.
