2019 NFL mock draft: Quarterbacks go early after trades
By Brad Weiss
We kick off our first trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were one of the more disappointing AFC teams during the 2018 NFL season. The season before, the Jaguars made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game, and even held a ten-point lead over the New England Patriots heading in to the fourth quarter.
Due to that, the organization went out and locked up quarterback Blake Bortles to a long-term deal, a move that has proven to be a big mistake. Bortles had a terrible 2018 season, getting benched late in the year, and it appears that his time as the franchise guy in Jacksonville is coming to an end.
Enter Kyler Murray, who does not have the kind of size that Bortles does, but should be an outstanding quarterback at the NFL level. In his one season as the starter for the Oklahoma Sooners, Murray led his team to the College Football Playoff, before being eliminated by the Alabama Crimson Tide in the semifinals.
For his efforts, Murray walked away with the Heisman Trophy, becoming the second straight Oklahoma quarterback to win the award. The man who won the award previous, Baker Mayfield, went No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft, and look for Murray to be the first quarterback off the board this April as well.
