Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had one hell of a run as interim boss for Manchester United. He’s all but secured the position on a full-time basis, reviving a club that was dreadful under Jose Mourinho. Against Liverpool, he endured his most difficult test to date. In the 0-0 draw, he was forced to make three first-half substitutions due to injuries. Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard – who replaced the injured Mata – were all sacrificed and are out indefinitely.
It’s a huge blow to United’s depth, with crucial games against Paris St. Germain and Arsenal on the horizon. But it could be a blessing in disguise in the short-term, with youngsters Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay with a better chance of starting. Solskjaer will be glad to take a point against Liverpool after the injuries blew apart their team. The result also keeps his unbeaten league record as manager intact.
But Crystal Palace have found form at the right time. Unbeaten in their last six in all competitions, their last being a 4-1 hammering away to Leicester City. They’ve risen to 13th in the league, tied with Burnley on 30 points. But they’re six points above Southampton in the relegation places, which could be a dangerous predicament.
In the 4-1 win, manager Roy Hodgson became the oldest ever Premier League manager, surpassing the great Sir Bobby Robson. Wilfried Zaha is in nice form, scoring three goals in his last two games. He’ll look to haunt his former club as United look to overtake Arsenal in the race for top four. The last game was a scoreless draw at Old Trafford in November, but things have changed dramatically for both teams. This is a huge game at both ends of the Premier League table.
