Round 3: Carl Granderson

Granderson has some off-the-field issues that will keep him out of the combine, but NFL scouts are already very familiar with the Wyoming defensive end. The combination of his long arms and ability to make plays in the opposing backfield will make him a very popular prospect heading up to the draft.

On the field, he’s a great fit for the 3-4 defense the Redskins utilize on conventional downs. Granderson isn’t a player who’s great setting the edge against the run, but he’s a terror when he’s let loose to play downhill. Washington has enough talent in the front seven to let Granderson do what he does best.

On obvious passing downs, the team could have Granderson put his hand in the dirt and rush the passer like a conventional defensive end.  That’s where the Wyoming defensive end has a chance to really make his mark at the next level. He may never be the most complete player in the draft, but you’re not going to draft a perfect edge rusher on day three.

There’s a real chance that Granderson gets snapped up in round two, but we think his legal concerns will push him down at least one round. The Redskins are definitely a team that could pounce on him due to his talent and schematic fit.
