Round 2: Erik McCoy

The ugly truth for the Vikings is that their offensive line problems extended beyond the right tackle position last year. The interior of the line also gave up a ton of pressure. Spielman has to upgrade one of the three inside spots in this year’s draft.

Some scouts are concerned over whether or not McCoy can stay at center due to his snapping issues, but it really shouldn’t matter for the Vikings. In a perfect world he’ll stay there, but even if he’s forced to move out to guard he can give the team a big lift.

His specialty will be keeping inside pass rushers out of Cousins’ face. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a solid run blocker as well. McCoy isn’t a guy who regularly blows opponents off the ball, but he almost always finds a way to move the tackle out of the hole.

Some Vikings fans might want to see a little sexier pick here, but fixing the offensive line is the one thing the organization has to do in this year’s draft. Getting Ford on Day One and McCoy on Day Two would go a long way towards protecting Cousins next season.
