Round 5: No selection

Round 6: Ben Banogu

Obviously the Vikings aren’t going to be able to replace Anthony Barr at this point in the draft. That doesn’t mean they can ignore the outside linebacker position entirely. Adding an intriguing talent like Banogu would give Zimmer a guy he can really craft into an impactful defender.

The former TCU defender is a little light to set the edge against the run in his rookie season, but he does have the speed to rush the passer. That’s something the Vikings really need from their outside linebackers. Even if Banogu only plays in nickel packages as a rookie, he’ll be a nice value for Minnesota.

Next. Vikings avoid making Mike Zimmer a lame duck. dark

Again, we wouldn’t argue with another interior offensive lineman here, but the Vikings don’t have quite enough picks for that luxury. Coming out of this draft with a speedy edge linebacker is something Spielman certainly wants to accomplish. This represents his last chance to do it.
