Round 5: Terry McLaurin

The Lions have really good talent at the top of their wide receiver depth chart, but trading Golden Tate leaves them a little thin in the slot. Drafting McLaurin would give them another quality option for Stafford to play with.

He’s not a burner, but he already shows the ability to run a ton of NFL routes. It would be a major surprise if he can’t find a way to contribute to a team in his rookie season due to his level of polish.

Round 6: Wyatt Ray

Ray would be a good pick to give the Lions a bit more depth on the defensive line. He may not test as a great athlete, but he’s got the size and physicality to hold up against the run. That should allow him to be a rotation player for a 3-4 team.

Round 6: Dexter Williams

Williams was really productive as a runner last season for Notre Dame, but the rest of his game needs a lot of work. That’s why he may slip this far in the draft. Still, the Lions would be happy to get a rusher of his quality this late.

Round 7: Renell Wrenn

Wrenn would be a nice lottery ticket for the Lions at defensive tackle. He showed real explosion during his time at Arizona State, but he failed to translate that into a ton of production. Patricia will fancy his chances of turning his potential into a quality player.

Round 7: Ryan Bates

The Lions can’t afford to come away with no offensive line help in this draft, and Bates is a guy who showed a lot of versatility at Penn State. He’s unlikely to ever develop into a starter, but he could be valuable as a backup at both guard and tackle.
