The 2019 IndyCar season begins March 10 with plenty to watch on and off track. Here are the storylines to follow in the NTT IndyCar Series this season.

There’s just over a week left before the 2019 IndyCar season, and with that comes a whole new batch of stories competing for racing fans’ attention. Which ones are worth your time?

Every new racing season involves a certain amount of change. There are always new drivers who are determined to become superstars, and existing superstars trying to add to their legacy. Each season usually comes with behind the scenes developments, too, from rule changes to business deals that have the potential to affect the on-track product.

The NTT IndyCar Series is particularly mixing things up this year, though. New teams are joining the grid, along with a number of high-profile rookie drivers looking to find immediate success. At the same time, established veterans have their own missions and existing teams have needs to address. It’s a wide-open season, which just means there are plenty of reasons to watch.

5. Scott Dixon’s sixth championship?

When the season starts, it will have been just a little under six months since Scott Dixon won his fifth IndyCar championship and made series history. Dixon now has more titles than anyone else in the league, and far more than any other active driver; no one currently competing against him has more than one championship. There’s a pretty big margin between one Astor Cup and five!

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver will be back in his No. 9 PNC Bank Honda looking to make it a half-dozen, and it’s more than worth watching Dixon’s progress through the season. If 2018 taught us anything, it’s that Scott Dixon can never, ever, ever be counted out. He worked his way to the top through another season of consistent driving. He was involved in a terrible wreck at Portland and somehow drove out unscathed to finish fifth! For any other driver, that would be insane, but with Scott Dixon, that’s just Dixon doing Dixon things.

No matter how much the competition changes, and even with new tracks in the mix, Dixon will always be considered a contender. So how is he going to follow up his record-setting campaign? Likely by quietly storming his way through IndyCar once again.
