1. Utah State

The team that gained the most this weekend was Utah State, and it wasn’t even close. Advanced metrics have indicated that Utah State was one of the nation’s 68 best teams for a while, but they simply haven’t had many opportunities to prove it.

Prior to Saturday’s game against Nevada, Utah State’s best win was over a St. Mary’s squad that was on the fringe of the bubble. That all changed with the Aggies’ five-point home win over Nevada, who many have pegged as one of the best teams in the country.

Defeating Nevada gives Utah State a signature win to put on their resume, which was heavy on quantity but light on quality. The Aggies also moved one step closer to clinching at least a share of the Mountain West’s regular season title, which they can claim with a win.

That game at Colorado State on Tuesday is huge for the Aggies, who need the Mountain West title on their resume in case they lose to Nevada in the conference tournament. A loss to anyone other than Nevada could undo Utah State’s big win here, but there is no question that the Aggies proved to anyone watching their game Saturday night that they are one of the 68 best teams in the country.
