Miles Boykin, WR, Notre Dame

This wide receiver class is loaded across the board. This was a very important combine as it was going to separate players that were grouped together in rankings. When a prospects tape is close to another, testing can be used to separate the two. One player who may have elevated himself into a new tier with his performance is Notre Dame’s Myles Boykin.

Boykin was a lost man in a receiver class that is considered one of the best of the decade in terms of depth. At nearly 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, Boykin profiles as an outside top receiving threat in measurement alone. On tape there were issues of fading and some drops but it was clear he was an elite athlete. No one would have predicted the day he had though.

Boykin ran the 40 in 4.42 seconds, good enough for ninth among wide receivers. Where he really shined were in the jumps. His 43.5-inch vertical jump and 140 inch broad jump places him in the 98th and 99th percentile respectively. Even his agility test place him inside the 75th percentile.

This is the type of performance that has scouts and evaluates going back and checking the tape. Boykin is the type of prospect who may go higher because of testing than his tape suggest. He is still a raw route runner but has potential to grow into a very good wide receiver in time.
