Devin White, LB, LSU

It is no surprise that the majority of players who are making the list of top of the draft prospects. Next up on the list is the draft’s top linebacker, Devin White of LSU. White has been the draft’s best at linebacker dating all the way back to those “too early mock drafts” that are run after the 2018 draft. He was destined to be a first round pick.

White on tape is a fluid athlete who can play in space and run sideline to sideline with the best. Where he was lacking entering the 2018 season was the mental side of playing linebacker. The converted running back would often run himself out of plays or fail to read his keys and be washed away. He improved mightily in those areas and is now a top ten player in the class.

The SEC linebacker produced an outstanding performance in Indianapolis to continue his rise up draft boards. White is an explosive athlete on tape and his performance in the 40-yard dash and vertical jump proved that. White’s 4.42 was the fastest of any linebacker. His 39.5 vertical jump was second only to Devin Bush, the second rated linebacker who an excellent showing in his own right. White also finished inside the top-ten of the 20-yard shuttle and three cone drill proving that his change of direction skills are top notch.

This is the prototype for the modern NFL linebacker. White will be a first round selection who could sneak into the top-ten. There are rumors about the Buccaneers love for White who would fill the void left by Kwon Alexander should he leave via free agency. His combine only solidified his standing inside the top ten of the class.
