Dallas Cowboys

The Earl Thomas to the Dallas Cowboys rumors continue to be all over social media. It’s a move that makes a ton of sense and has been talked about for a while. However, Thomas isn’t a clean free agent coming with some baggage.

Dallas will need to be comfortable with both Thomas’ medicals and salary demand. He’s not going to settle for a lesser contract just to play for the Cowboys. The cap situation for the Cowboys isn’t great with just over $25 million available to spend.

This could push them to a cheaper safety option like Weddle. He would serve as a short-term option who wouldn’t eat into much of the Cowboys future cap space.

Dallas has other needs they must address during the offseason. They could elect to try and strike a more reasonable deal with Weddle rather than overspend on Thomas.

Weddle also doesn’t come with the same extensive injury history as Thomas. The overall play of both players isn’t separated by much. Thomas comes with a little more fan-fare, but Weddle has had a great career in his own right.

At the moment, Jeff Heath and Xavier Woods are the top two safeties on the Cowboys depth chart.
