Green Bay Packers

Over the years the Green Bay Packers have had a tendency to stay out of free agency. They are an organization that prefers to draft well and develop their own talent. Green Bay would rather sign a home-grown player to an extension rather than bring in someone from outside the organization.

This strategy did have its benefits, but recently we have seen the talent across the Packers roster drop. They haven’t been as successful in the draft which has limited that home-grown talent. The talk is that this offseason they will be a little more aggressive in free agency.

Green Bay has a need at the safety position after trading Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the middle of last season. He was a long-term starter for the franchise, but fell out of favor.

The Packers currently have Josh Jones, Tramon Williams and Kentrell Brice as the top safeties on the roster. Jones is a former second round pick and should get a good opportunity to land one of the starting jobs.

Williams did a solid job transition to safety, but his age and lack of familiarity of the position is a concern. Weddle would give the Packers a veteran presence in what is a very young secondary.
