Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams have made some moves this offseason, like cutting Mark Barron, to create more salary cap space. One area where they could decide to use this money is at the safety position.

Long-time starter, Lamarcus Joyner, is hitting free agency and looks likely to find a new home. He had a good run with the Rams, but in the end didn’t make enough game-changing plays.

Weddle’s ability to create turnovers and nose for the ball would be a welcome change for the Rams. He would be someone that also provides more veteran leadership in the back end of the defense.

The Rams still see themselves as Super Bowl contenders which means they can focus on making a short-term move like signing Weddle. In fact, their recent success is a strong selling point and could help them land Weddle on a bargain contract.

Los Angeles has some internal options at the position with Josh Johnson expected to be one of the starters. It’s also not out of the question that Aqib Talib changes position. We’ve seen several aging cornerbacks make a successful transition to safety.

The Rams have roughly $35 million in cap space which is enough to bring Weddle into the mix while also addressing the other areas of need on the roster.
