NFL Draft 2019: Arizona Cardinals 7-round mock
By Joe Romano
Round 2 – Pick – 33
Jawaan Taylor, T, Florida
One of the biggest reasons for Josh Rosen’s struggles was a simple lack of protection. The Cardinals went out and spent on Justin Pugh to help secure the interior but he is serviceable at best. Veteran guard Mike Iupati, once a big signing in his own right, will likely not return. At center long time start A.Q. Shipley will battle Mason Cole should more talent not arise. At tackle, D.J. Humphries is solid on the left side but on the right Joe Barksdale is not the answer. This team needs talent up front.
In comes Jawaan Taylor from Florida. Taylor is an athletic body who shows the natural ability to mirror and match the elite pass rushers he saw in the SEC. He played this season at right tackle adn would slide right in there for Arizona. The massive former Gator can win with power as well, especially when he lands a good first strike. Taylor will have techinque issues to work on as he gets into the next level, but the tools are there.
Taylor would be the ideal partner for Humphries giving the Cardinals two athletic offensive tackles who can also become maulers to pave the way for David Johnson. Rosen will need protection given his lack of athleticism. Taylor should be up to the task with his excellent strength and ability to run players up the arc. This would give Rosen the protection he needs while also providing Johnson with help to get him going.
