2. New York Jets

The Jets are set to be one of the more active teams in free agency, with the second-most cap space in the league ($102.1 million) and plenty of rumors tying them to interest in players a week or more out.

The Jets simply need to fortify their pass rush. They edged into the middle of the pack with 39 sacks last year, but co-leading sacker Jordan Jenkins (seven sacks) is regarded more highly as a run stopping outside linebacker and fellow leading sacker Henry Anderson is a free agent. Nothing would stop them from resigning Anderson, as it’s been reported they’d like to, but new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams could certainly use another capable pass rusher coming off the edge.

Houston may prefer to join a team that’s closer to winning a Super Bowl than the Jets are right now, without a full picture of who else they’ll sign in free agency this month. But they are an appealing spot for any free agent, with a young quarterback in place and the perception of a bright future. A rise to playoff contention in 2019 could very well be followed by more in subsequent years, so Houston may give the Jets more than a passing look.
