Round 1 – Pick 3

Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky

Around this time of year there are always rumors that seem to have the top of the draft figured out. That is the same thing happening this year. It looks as though Kyler Murray will take the top spot to either Arizona or a team trading up. That leaves Nick Bosa at the second spot to San Francisco to fill an edge rusher need that is glaring.

Next up would be the Jets. This is an ideal spot for the team to trade back. Look for Jacksonville, the other New York team or even Miami to make a play. With the second quarterback, of what is considered a two quarterback draft, is available, teams will make a play. All three of those teams could desperately use a quarterback and are not far off from the third pick. New York could use this as trade bait to the highest bidder. Sticking inside the top 10, like they would with the Jaguars and Giants, would allow them to fill a hole with an elite prospect. They’d also be able to recoup the picks traded away to move up and get Sam Darnold last year.

In this scenario without trades, the Jets sit pat and take Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen. The New Jersey native was dominant in the SEC last year and pushed himself significantly up the board with his play. Allen was a vocal leader defensively for the Wildcats in their best season in a decade. He’s an elite athlete at the edge position who looks comfortable in space but is a true quarterback hunter. He fills a need the Jets have had for the entire Todd Bowles era.

With Adam Gase taking the reigns it is a spot that will be addressed early. Allen is a Gase type of player with high character and an non-stop motor. The marriage makes a ton of sense.
