Round 2: Chris Lindstrom

The Steelers decision to re-sign both Maurkice Pouncey and Ramon Foster seems to solidify the interior of their offensive line for the foreseeable future. Both Foster and fellow guard David DeCastro are starting to get long in the tooth though. If Lindstrom is available here he might be too talented to pass up.

The former Boston College guard isn’t a massive figure in the middle of the line, but he’s excellent when it comes to moving his feet and making plays in space. That makes him a really good bet to excel as a pass blocker once he gets used to the speed of NFL defensive tackles.

Letting him sit for a season behind DeCastro and Foster would be an ideal scenario for Lindstrom. It would give him a full season to put on good weight as well as learn the nuances of the professional game.

That doesn’t mean he couldn’t do a job immediately if injury forced him into action. His technique and good feet make it really hard for defenders to move him anywhere he doesn’t want to go. Lindstrom is going to develop into an above average starting guard in the NFL for a long time. The Steelers would love to find that kind of long-term value on Day Two.
