3. TCU

It wasn’t a banner year for the Big 12, which saw two of its bubble teams fail to make the field. While Texas drew the short straw for a high number of losses, TCU’s exclusion likely comes down to a few factors.

The Horned Frogs went 7-11 in conference play just like Oklahoma, but the Sooners were a 10-seed while TCU is awaiting an NIT bid. The difference is that Oklahoma’s conference wins included a victory over Kansas and a sweep of the Horned Frogs, putting them ahead of TCU in the committee’s eyes.

The Sooners also did a better job than TCU in the non-conference schedule, earning wins over two teams that made the field in Wofford and Florida while their victory over Creighton gained steam as the year went on. TCU can only claim a win over Florida on its ledger, and that lack of quality wins likely doomed the Horned Frogs.

It’s a tough break for Jamie Dixon’s team after they made the tournament a year ago, but the Horned Frogs will have to do a better job scheduling to avoid this fate going forward.
